“Light on Brown Sugar River”

Jan 07 I’ve begun going back over some of these landscapes and adding birds that inhabit the area.

My early landscape painter heroes came from the Hudson River Valley and moved west where I saw them in the museums. Now I’m enjoying my chance to take it back east.

My name for the series has many references for me. The silty water, generations of lighthouses, a formula for landscape painting, centuries of river commerce, the emotional sweetness of the landscape, the world culture found along the river, and the sensual.
